Ezekiel 12 (vv. 5-7)

At evening, while the people continue to watch, Ezekiel enacts exile more dramatically. He digs through the wall with his hands, then lifts his packed belongings onto his shoulder and departs at dusk with his face covered. The strange, almost desperate movement through the wall embodies the humiliating flight that will soon come upon Jerusalem.
