Exodus 4 (vv. 1-5)

Moses, anxious that the Israelites will not believe his calling, stands in the wilderness with his shepherd's staff. At the command of the LORD, he throws the staff to the ground, where it becomes a living serpent. Startled and afraid, Moses recoils and runs back, while the divine presence is suggested through radiant light and holy intensity rather than any visible form.
