Exodus 34 (vv. 29-35)

When Moses descends from Sinai carrying the tablets, he does not realize that his face is radiant from speaking with the LORD. Aaron and the Israelites recoil in fear at the visible glory upon him, but Moses calls them back and delivers the commands he has received. After speaking, he covers his face with a veil, removing it only when he returns to the LORD's presence. The scene reveals both the transforming power of divine communion and the distance it creates between holiness and the people.
