Exodus 28 (vv. 15-30)

The breastpiece for making decisions is fashioned as a square, folded double, and adorned with four rows of precious stones—twelve in all—each engraved with the name of one tribe of Israel. Gold rings, braided chains, and blue cords secure it to the ephod so it rests firmly over Aaron’s heart. Hidden within are the Urim and Thummim, signifying that the priest carries the people and their need for divine guidance into the presence of the LORD.
