Exodus 2 (vv. 21-25)

Moses settles in Midian, marries Zipporah, and names their son Gershom, expressing his identity as a foreigner in a foreign land. At the same time, back in Egypt, the Israelites groan under slavery, and their cry rises upward; God’s response is shown not by a visible face, but by a solemn, attentive presence as he hears, remembers his covenant, sees his people, and turns toward them with concern.

모세는 미디안에 머물며 십보라와 결혼하고 아들 게르솜을 낳는데, 그 이름에는 자신이 이방 땅의 나그네라는 자각이 담겨 있다. 한편 이집트에서는 이스라엘 백성이 노예 생활 속에서 신음하며 부르짖고, 그 울부짖음은 위로 올라간다. 하나님의 응답은 얼굴로 직접 묘사되지 않고, 언약을 기억하시고 백성을 보시며 돌보시는 엄숙하고도 세심한 임재로 표현된다.
