Description
Moses strikes the rock in the sight of the elders, and water bursts forth for the thirsty nation. The once-barren place becomes a moment of astonishment and relief as people rush forward with jars, children reach toward the stream, and animals gather to drink. The place is marked by both mercy and rebuke, remembered as Massah and Meribah because the people tested the LORD.
