Exodus 1 (vv. 8-14)

A new king arises who does not honor Joseph and sees the growing Israelites as a threat. He speaks fearfully to his people, then imposes slave masters and forced labor. The Israelites are shown building store cities with brick and mortar and laboring in the fields, while Egyptian power looms over them; yet even under oppression, their increase cannot be stopped.
