Esther 5 (vv. 14)

Zeresh and Haman’s friends advise him to set up a towering pole and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Haman is delighted by the suggestion and orders the pole prepared at once. The scene closes with a dark symbol of pride, vengeance, and impending reversal, as the structure rises ominously into the night sky.
