Esther 3 (vv. 1-4)

At the king’s gate, royal officials bow low before the newly exalted Haman as he passes in splendor, clothed in the honor of the Persian court. In striking contrast, Mordecai stands upright among the kneeling crowd, refusing to pay him homage. The surrounding officials stare at him with alarm and disbelief, questioning why he dares disobey the king’s command, while Mordecai’s calm but resolute posture reveals a deep inner conviction.

왕궁 문 앞에서 새롭게 높임을 받은 하만이 화려한 위엄을 드러내며 지나가자 왕의 신하들은 모두 몸을 낮추어 절합니다. 그러나 그 무리 가운데 모르드개만은 꼿꼿이 서서 그에게 경배하기를 거부합니다. 주변 관리들은 놀람과 불안 속에 그를 바라보며 어찌하여 왕의 명령을 어기느냐고 묻고, 모르드개의 침착하면서도 단호한 자세는 그의 깊은 신념을 드러냅니다.
