Ephesians 2 (vv. 4-10)

The turning point of the chapter appears here: those who were lying in darkness are awakened by divine mercy. A group of people who seemed lifeless begin to rise as warm heavenly light pours down from above, not showing God’s face but revealing his presence through radiant beams. At the center, the imagery suggests union with Christ in resurrection and exaltation, with lifted faces, renewed posture, and a sense of undeserved gift rather than human achievement. The scene should also hint that these restored people are being shaped for good works prepared in advance, perhaps through a path opening before them.
