Deuteronomy 4 (vv. 15-24)

Moses warns the people not to corrupt themselves by making idols in any form—human, animal, bird, creeping thing, fish, or even the sun, moon, and stars. The scene contrasts the unseen holiness of the LORD with the temptation of visible created things. Israel is reminded that the God who brought them out of Egypt is a consuming fire and demands exclusive covenant loyalty.

모세는 백성에게 사람이나 짐승이나 새나 기는 것이나 물고기, 심지어 해와 달과 별의 형상으로도 우상을 만들며 스스로 타락하지 말라고 경고한다. 이 장면은 보이는 피조물을 향한 유혹과 보이지 않는 여호와의 거룩하심을 대조한다. 이스라엘은 자신들을 애굽에서 이끌어 내신 하나님이 소멸하는 불이시며, 오직 그분께만 충성할 것을 요구하신다는 사실을 다시 듣는다.
