Deuteronomy 34 (vv. 1-4)

Moses climbs to the top of Mount Nebo and stands overlooking the vast land promised to the patriarchs. From the height he sees the regions stretching from Gilead to Dan, the hills and valleys of Ephraim and Manasseh, Judah toward the Great Sea, the Negev, and the Jordan plain near Jericho. The LORD’s presence is not shown as a figure, but as radiant divine light and holy atmosphere surrounding the moment as Moses is told that he may see the land but will not cross into it.

모세는 느보 산 정상에 올라 족장들에게 약속된 광대한 땅을 바라본다. 높은 곳에서 그는 길르앗에서 단까지, 에브라임과 므낫세의 산지와 골짜기, 큰 바다를 향한 유다 땅, 네겝, 그리고 여리고 근처 요단 평야까지 바라본다. 여호와의 임재는 인물 형상이 아니라 찬란한 신적 빛과 거룩한 분위기로 표현되며, 모세는 그 땅을 눈으로 보되 들어가지는 못하리라는 말씀을 듣는다.
