Deuteronomy 22 (vv. 1-4)

An Israelite traveler notices a neighbor’s sheep and donkey wandering unattended along a dusty road. Instead of passing by, he gently gathers the animals and leads them back, showing practical compassion and covenant responsibility. Nearby, another beast has fallen under its load, and the man joins the owner to lift it back to its feet, turning ordinary roadside life into a visible act of mercy.

한 이스라엘 사람이 먼지 나는 길가에서 이웃의 양과 나귀가 주인 없이 헤매는 모습을 본다. 그는 못 본 체하지 않고 짐승들을 조심스럽게 모아 주인에게 돌려보내며, 언약 공동체 안에서의 실제적인 자비와 책임을 보여 준다. 가까운 곳에는 짐에 눌려 길에 쓰러진 다른 짐승이 있고, 그는 그 주인과 함께 힘을 모아 짐승을 다시 일으켜 세운다. 평범한 길가의 풍경이 자비의 행동으로 바뀌는 순간이다.
