Deuteronomy 20 (vv. 1)

Israelite soldiers stand on rugged highland ground and look out at a far larger enemy force spread across the valley below, with horses, chariots, and glittering weapons. Though the enemy appears overwhelming, the focus of the scene is not panic but the command not to fear, because the LORD who brought Israel out of Egypt is with them. The contrast between visible military power and invisible divine support creates the tension of the moment.

이스라엘 군사들은 거친 산지에 서서 아래 골짜기에 펼쳐진 훨씬 더 큰 적군을 바라본다. 적군은 말과 병거와 번쩍이는 무기로 가득하다. 그러나 이 장면의 중심은 공포가 아니라, 이스라엘을 이집트에서 인도해 내신 여호와께서 함께하시므로 두려워하지 말라는 명령이다. 눈에 보이는 군사력과 보이지 않는 하나님의 도우심 사이의 대비가 이 순간의 긴장을 만들어 낸다.
