Though the land is good, the people refuse to go up and instead grumble in their tents, overwhelmed by fear of strong nations, towering walls, and the Anakites. Moses answers by reminding them that the LORD goes before them, carrying them like a father carries his son, shown in the wilderness by cloud by day and fire by night.
