Amos 9 (vv. 1)

Amos sees the Lord standing by the altar in a sanctuary at the moment judgment begins. The tops of the pillars are struck, the thresholds tremble, and the whole sacred structure seems to shudder under divine command. The people below are seized with terror as the place they trusted becomes the setting of their downfall, emphasizing that no outward religion can shield a rebellious nation from judgment.

아모스는 심판이 시작되는 순간 성소의 제단 곁에 서 계신 주님을 본다. 기둥 머리가 타격을 받고 문지방이 흔들리며, 거룩한 건물 전체가 하나님의 명령 아래 떨리는 듯하다. 아래에 있는 사람들은 두려움에 사로잡히고, 그들이 의지하던 장소가 오히려 멸망의 무대가 된다. 이는 겉모습의 종교가 반역한 나라를 심판에서 지켜 주지 못함을 강조한다.
