Amos 6 (vv. 12-14)

The final scene presents Amos’s prophetic logic through striking visual symbolism. On an impossible rocky landscape, horses and oxen evoke the absurdity of trying to run or plow where it cannot be done, while Israel’s leaders boast in military success and self-made strength. Yet their triumph is hollow, because justice has been corrupted into poison and righteousness into bitterness. In the distance, an invading nation advances across the land, showing that the boastful kingdom will soon be overwhelmed from north to south.

마지막 장면은 아모스의 예언적 논리를 강렬한 상징으로 보여 준다. 말과 소가 도저히 달리거나 밭을 갈 수 없는 바위투성이 지형 위에 놓여 있어, 불가능한 일을 행하는 어리석음을 드러낸다. 동시에 이스라엘의 지도자들은 군사적 승리와 자신의 힘을 자랑한다. 그러나 그들의 승리는 공허하다. 정의는 독으로, 공의의 열매는 쓴맛으로 변했기 때문이다. 멀리서는 침략하는 나라의 군대가 땅을 가로질러 다가오며, 자랑하던 왕국이 북쪽에서 남쪽까지 압제를 당할 것을 보여 준다.
