Amos 5 (vv. 1-3)

Amos opens with a funeral lament over Israel, portraying the nation as a young woman fallen in her own land with no one to lift her up. Around her, the consequences of judgment are visible: once-mighty cities that sent out large armies are now reduced to a remnant. The image should feel like a national elegy, combining personal grief with public collapse.

아모스는 이스라엘을 위한 장송곡으로 시작하며, 그 나라를 자기 땅에 쓰러져 아무도 일으켜 세울 자 없는 젊은 여인으로 묘사한다. 그녀의 주변에는 심판의 결과가 드러난다. 한때 많은 군사를 내보내던 성읍들은 이제 극소수의 남은 자만 남게 되었다. 이 장면은 개인적인 비탄과 국가적 몰락이 함께 담긴 민족적 애가처럼 느껴져야 한다.
