Two travelers walk together on a dusty path, implying agreement; nearby, a lion roars from the thicket and another growls over hidden prey; a bird hovers over a baited trap, and a sprung snare snaps from the ground. In the distance, a city trumpet sounds and people begin to tremble. The whole scene communicates Amos’s logic: effects do not happen without causes, and the coming disaster is no accident.
