Description
The oracle against Damascus is visualized through symbols of brutality and downfall. The cruelty done to Gilead is suggested by heavy threshing sledges with iron teeth lying in the foreground, while the mighty city of Damascus rises behind them with gates and fortified palaces. Fire begins to consume the house of Hazael and the strongholds of Ben-Hadad, and the royal authority of Aram appears ready to collapse as the gate is broken and exile looms in the distance.
