Acts 4 (vv. 1-4)

While Peter and John are speaking publicly to a gathered crowd in the temple courts, the priests, the captain of the temple guard, and the Sadducees approach with visible alarm and irritation. Their anger is stirred because the apostles are proclaiming that Jesus has risen from the dead. The moment turns suddenly from open teaching to confrontation as temple officers seize Peter and John. Evening shadows lengthen across the stone courts, signaling the close of day and the beginning of their imprisonment, yet the crowd is divided—many are shaken, but many others are believing, and the movement is clearly growing.
