Description
After the slave girl’s owners stir up the authorities, Paul and Silas are publicly beaten and thrown into the inner prison with their feet fastened in stocks. At midnight, instead of despairing, they pray and sing hymns while the other prisoners listen. Suddenly a violent earthquake shakes the prison, doors fly open, chains come loose, and the jailer nearly takes his own life before Paul cries out that everyone is still there.
