Description
Around noon in Joppa, Peter goes up onto the flat rooftop of Simon the tanner's house to pray. As food is being prepared below, he falls into a trance and sees heaven opened. A great sheet descends by its four corners, filled with animals, reptiles, and birds. When a voice tells him to kill and eat, Peter resists because of Jewish purity laws, but the heavenly reply declares that what God has made clean must not be called impure. The vision repeats three times, pressing its meaning upon him.
