Acts 10 (vv. 1-6)

In Caesarea, Cornelius, a Roman centurion known for his devotion, generosity, and regular prayer, is praying in his house at about three in the afternoon. Suddenly he sees an angelic messenger of God calling him by name. Fear and reverence fill his face as the messenger tells him that his prayers and gifts to the poor have been remembered before God and instructs him to send for Simon Peter in Joppa, at the house of Simon the tanner by the sea.

가이사랴에서 경건하고 자선을 베풀며 늘 기도하던 로마 백부장 고넬료가 오후 세 시쯤 자기 집에서 기도하고 있다. 그때 하나님의 천사가 나타나 그의 이름을 부른다. 두려움과 경외심이 가득한 얼굴로 고넬료가 응답하자, 천사는 그의 기도와 구제가 하나님 앞에 기억되었음을 전하고, 바닷가에 있는 무두장이 시몬의 집에 머무는 시몬 베드로를 욥바에서 데려오라고 명한다.
