2 Timothy 4 (vv. 6-8)

Paul reflects on his approaching death with sacrificial imagery and triumphant faith. He sees his life as already being poured out like a drink offering, yet he also declares that he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. The climax is the promised crown of righteousness from the Lord, the righteous Judge, not only for Paul but for all who long for Christ’s appearing. The scene should blend mortality, sacrifice, endurance, and heavenly reward.
