Description
Barzillai, the aged benefactor who had supported David in exile, comes to accompany the king across the Jordan. David warmly invites him to Jerusalem, but Barzillai declines because of his age and asks instead that Kimham go in his place. After the king kisses Barzillai farewell and crosses over, the moment of tenderness is quickly overshadowed by a sharp dispute between Judah and the other tribes over who has the greater claim to David. The scene combines gratitude, transition, and the first signs of renewed division.
