2 Samuel 19 (vv. 1-4)

News spreads that King David is not celebrating victory but mourning the death of his son Absalom. The army, which has just returned from battle, enters the city quietly and in shame, as though defeated rather than triumphant. Inside, David covers his face and cries out in deep anguish, repeating his son’s name. The contrast between military success and a father’s grief defines the emotional opening of the chapter.
