2 Samuel 18 (vv. 33)

When the Cushite’s answer makes clear that Absalom is dead, David is shaken to the core. He withdraws to the room above the gateway and weeps, crying out again and again for his son and wishing that he himself had died instead. The victory of the kingdom is overshadowed by the grief of a father whose heart is broken.

구스 사람의 대답으로 압살롬이 죽었다는 사실이 분명해지자, 다윗은 깊이 흔들린다. 그는 성문 위의 방으로 올라가 울며, 자신의 아들을 부르짖고 차라리 자신이 대신 죽었더라면 좋았을 것이라고 탄식한다. 왕국의 승리는 아들을 잃은 한 아버지의 찢어진 마음 앞에서 완전히 가려진다.
