2 Samuel 18 (vv. 19-32)

After the battle, Ahimaaz longs to carry news of victory, but Joab sends a Cushite instead because the message includes the death of the king’s son. Ahimaaz insists on running and takes the plain, outrunning the Cushite. At the city gate, David waits between the inner and outer gates while the watchman on the rooftop spots first one lone runner and then another, building suspense before the truth is fully spoken.

전투 후 아히마아스는 승전 소식을 전하고 싶어 하지만, 그 소식에는 왕의 아들의 죽음이 포함되어 있기에 요압은 구스 사람을 먼저 보낸다. 그러나 아히마아스는 끝까지 달리기를 고집하고 평지 길로 가서 구스 사람보다 먼저 도착한다. 성문에서는 다윗이 안팎 성문 사이에 앉아 기다리고, 망대 위의 파수꾼은 먼저 홀로 달려오는 한 사람을 보고, 이어 또 다른 주자를 발견하며 진실이 드러나기 전 긴장감을 높인다.
