2 Samuel 18 (vv. 14-18)

Impatient with the soldier’s refusal, Joab takes action himself. He approaches the still-living Absalom in the oak and strikes, after which his armor-bearers surround the fallen rebel and finish the deed. Joab then sounds the trumpet to halt the pursuit, and Absalom is cast into a pit in the forest under a great heap of stones, in stark contrast to the monument he had raised for his own name.
