Description
At Rabbah, Joab places Uriah where the defenders are strongest. The men of the city surge out, archers fire from the wall, and several of David’s soldiers fall; Uriah dies among them. A messenger then reports the battle to David, and the king coldly responds that the sword devours one as well as another. The scene joins battlefield danger with the chilling detachment of the palace response.
