2 Samuel 11 (vv. 14-15)

In the morning David writes a letter to Joab ordering that Uriah be placed in the fiercest fighting and then abandoned so that he will die. He sends the sealed message by Uriah’s own hand, making the faithful soldier unknowingly carry the command for his death. The scene is chilling because the violence begins not on the battlefield, but in the king’s chamber with ink, wax, and intent.

아침이 되자 다윗은 요압에게 편지를 써서 우리아를 가장 치열한 전투의 앞자리에 세운 뒤 물러나게 하여 죽게 하라고 명령한다. 그는 그 봉인된 편지를 충성된 우리아의 손에 들려 보낸다. 우리아는 자신도 모르게 자신의 죽음을 명한 문서를 운반하게 된다. 이 장면이 서늘한 이유는 폭력이 전장에서가 아니라 왕의 방 안에서, 먹과 봉인과 의도 속에서 시작되기 때문이다.
