Description
Hanun acts on bad counsel and publicly disgraces David’s envoys by shaving off half of each man’s beard and cutting their garments so that they are exposed and shamed. Rather than showing the act graphically, the scene emphasizes the aftermath: the envoys leaving in humiliation, covering themselves, their faces marked by shock and dishonor. David, upon hearing of it, sends word for them to remain in Jericho until their beards grow back.
