2 Kings 9 (vv. 1-10)

Elisha sends a young prophet with a flask of olive oil to Ramoth Gilead, where Jehu is summoned away from the other officers into a private inner room. There the prophet pours oil over Jehu’s head and declares the word of the LORD: Jehu is anointed king over Israel and appointed to bring judgment on the house of Ahab and on Jezebel. The moment is intimate yet charged with divine urgency, and the messenger flees immediately after delivering the message.
