Description
Josiah commands Hilkiah the high priest, the priests, and the doorkeepers to remove the objects made for Baal, Asherah, and the starry hosts from the temple of the LORD. The defiled objects are carried outside Jerusalem to the Kidron Valley, where they are burned, while the Asherah pole is reduced to ashes and dust. The king’s reform reaches even the corrupted quarters within the temple precincts, tearing down spaces associated with shrine prostitution and pagan weaving.
