Description
In deference to the king of Assyria, Ahaz dismantles parts of the temple complex: side panels are cut away, basins removed, the great Sea taken from its bronze bulls and set on a stone base, and royal structures altered. The final scene should show the temple being stripped of its former glory under foreign pressure. It is a visual summary of decline, ending the reign of Ahaz with a sense of diminished holiness and exhausted kingship before Hezekiah’s succession.
