Description
Back in Jerusalem, Ahaz approaches the newly built altar and offers sacrifices on it, while the original bronze altar before the LORD is pushed aside to the north. Uriah obeys the king’s commands, and the center of temple worship is displaced. The scene should emphasize the shock of replacement: sacred order has been altered, old and new altars stand in uneasy relation, and royal authority overrides proper worship.
