Description
Azariah, also called Uzziah, begins his long reign in Jerusalem as a young king who does what is right in the sight of the LORD. Yet the high places remain, and the people continue their unauthorized worship. The scene captures both royal dignity and looming judgment: Azariah in kingly robes within the palace courts, while in the distance smoke rises from hilltop shrines. The LORD’s affliction falls on him, and he is set apart in isolation, while his son Jotham begins to govern the palace.
