As soon as the royal command spreads, the people respond with remarkable generosity. They bring firstfruits of grain, new wine, olive oil, honey, and all the produce of the fields, along with tithes of herds, flocks, and holy gifts dedicated to the LORD. The offerings are piled into great heaps over the months from the third to the seventh, turning the temple precincts into a visible testimony of abundance and obedience.
