After Jehoiada’s death, Judah’s leaders turn Joash toward idolatry, abandoning the temple and embracing Asherah poles and idols. In response, the Spirit of God comes upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada, who stands before the people in the temple court and boldly declares that because they have forsaken the LORD, the LORD has forsaken them.
