Description
Hearing the noise of celebration, Athaliah enters the temple area and sees the shocking scene: the young king standing by his pillar, officers and trumpeters beside him, and the people rejoicing with music and praise. In sudden horror and fury, she tears her robes and cries out, 'Treason! Treason!' Her isolated protest only heightens the legitimacy and joy of the public coronation around her.
