2 Chronicles 21 (vv. 1-4)

After Jehoshaphat is laid to rest in the City of David, Jehoram rises as king over Judah. Though his brothers had received wealth and fortified cities from their father, the kingdom had been entrusted to Jehoram as firstborn. Once his rule is secure, he turns against his own family and officials, revealing that his reign will begin not with honor, but with treachery and fear.
