Description
After the loss of Solomon’s gold shields, Rehoboam makes bronze shields and assigns them to the royal guard. Whenever he goes to the temple, the guards carry these substitutes before returning them to the guardroom. The image captures a kingdom that still stands and worship continues, yet its diminished glory reveals both mercy and consequence; Rehoboam remains preserved, but his heart is not fully set on seeking the LORD.
