1 Samuel 9 (vv. 22-24)

Samuel brings Saul and his servant into the hall and gives them the place of honor among about thirty invited guests. He then instructs the cook to bring the specially reserved portion of meat, the thigh that had been set aside in advance for Saul. In a public setting, Saul is quietly but unmistakably elevated before others, though he still does not fully grasp what is unfolding.

사무엘은 사울과 그의 종을 잔치 자리로 데리고 들어가 약 서른 명의 초청된 사람들 앞에서 가장 높은 자리에 앉힌다. 이어 요리사에게 미리 따로 떼어 두었던 고기, 곧 넓적다리를 가져오라고 말한다. 공개된 자리에서 사울은 조용하지만 분명하게 다른 이들보다 높임을 받지만, 그는 아직 이 일이 지닌 의미를 완전히 깨닫지 못한다.
