1 Samuel 9 (vv. 15-21)

The day before Saul arrived, the LORD had already revealed to Samuel that a man from Benjamin would come and be anointed ruler over Israel. When Samuel sees Saul, he receives divine confirmation that this is the man. Saul, unaware of the deeper meaning of the meeting, simply asks for the seer’s house, but Samuel reveals himself and tells Saul not to worry about the lost donkeys, hinting instead that the desire of Israel is now directed toward him. Saul responds in humility and disbelief, pointing to the insignificance of his tribe and clan.

사울이 오기 전날, 여호와께서는 베냐민 땅에서 한 사람이 와서 이스라엘의 지도자로 기름 부음을 받게 될 것이라고 이미 사무엘에게 알려 주셨다. 사무엘이 사울을 보는 순간, 그는 이 사람이 바로 그 인물이라는 하나님의 확신을 받는다. 그러나 사울은 이 만남의 깊은 의미를 모른 채 단지 선견자의 집을 묻는다. 사무엘은 자신이 그 선견자임을 밝히고, 잃어버린 암나귀는 이미 찾았다고 말하며 이스라엘의 사모함이 사울에게 향하고 있음을 넌지시 드러낸다. 사울은 자신의 작은 지파와 미약한 가문을 말하며 겸손하고 놀란 반응을 보인다.
