1 Samuel 6 (vv. 1-6)

After the ark has remained in Philistine territory for seven months, the Philistine rulers gather with priests and diviners in a tense council chamber. Their land has been afflicted, and they ask what must be done with the ark of the LORD. The priests advise that it must not be returned empty, but with a guilt offering of gold tumors and gold rats, acknowledging the plague and giving glory to the God of Israel.

여호와의 궤가 블레셋 땅에 일곱 달 동안 머문 뒤, 블레셋의 통치자들이 제사장들과 복술자들과 함께 긴장된 회의 자리에 모인다. 그들의 땅은 재앙으로 고통받고 있었고, 그들은 여호와의 궤를 어떻게 해야 할지 묻는다. 제사장들은 궤를 빈손으로 돌려보내지 말고, 재앙을 인정하며 이스라엘의 하나님께 영광을 돌리는 뜻으로 금 독종과 금 쥐를 속건제물로 함께 보내야 한다고 조언한다.
