Description
A Benjamite runs from the battle to Shiloh with torn clothes and dust on his head, carrying news of disaster. Eli, old and blind, sits by the road near the gate, trembling in concern for the ark. When the messenger reports the defeat, the deaths of Eli’s sons, and above all the capture of the ark, Eli falls backward from his chair and dies.
