1 Samuel 23 (vv. 25-29)

In the Desert of Maon, Saul and David move on opposite sides of a mountain as Saul closes in for capture. The pursuit reaches a breathless climax when a messenger suddenly arrives to tell Saul that the Philistines are raiding the land. Saul is forced to break off the chase, and David escapes. The scene should capture the razor-thin line between doom and deliverance, with geography itself becoming part of the drama.

마온 광야에서 사울과 다윗은 산의 서로 다른 편을 따라 움직이고, 사울은 다윗을 거의 붙잡을 듯 가까이 다가온다. 추격이 숨 막히는 절정에 이르렀을 때, 한 전령이 갑자기 도착해 블레셋이 땅을 침략하고 있다고 알린다. 사울은 추격을 중단할 수밖에 없고, 다윗은 탈출한다. 이 장면은 파멸과 구원이 종이 한 장 차이로 갈리는 순간을, 지형 자체가 드라마의 일부가 되도록 보여 주어야 한다.
