1 Samuel 22 (vv. 6-10)

Saul hears that David has been discovered and sits beneath the tamarisk tree on the hill at Gibeah, spear in hand, surrounded by his officials. In a bitter outburst he accuses them of conspiracy and disloyalty. Then Doeg the Edomite steps forward and reports seeing David with Ahimelek at Nob, receiving provisions and the sword of Goliath. The scene reveals Saul's paranoia and the poisonous atmosphere of his court.
