Description
After Samuel departs, Saul counts only about six hundred men remaining. The Philistines send out raiding parties in three directions, and Israel’s weakness is exposed further: there is no blacksmith in the land, and the people must go to the Philistines even to sharpen farming tools. On the day of battle, only Saul and Jonathan possess swords or spears. This scene should visualize humiliation, scarcity, and the stark imbalance between the two sides as the Philistine detachment holds the pass at Mikmash.
